Mike Barrett is a leading corporate and commercial lawyer with strong expertise in mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity financings, investment fund formation, various commercial agreements and project development.
While Mike is retained by market participants across a number of industries (for example in infrastructure and private equity), as Co-Head of Bennett Jones' Power Practice Group, Mike acts for domestic and international developers, utilities, investors and suppliers regarding a wide variety of energy generation and energy storage projects in Canada and abroad.
Mike is a regular lecturer at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law, speaking on power development, resource development and emerging climate change policy developments. Mike is an active member of a variety of industry associations including the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA), the Association of Power Producers of Ontario (APPrO) and many fuel specific organizations (CanWEA, CanSIA). Mike is engaged as pro bono counsel to Plug 'n Drive Ontario – a not-for-profit coalition of entities interested in electric vehicle infrastructure development. Mike is also a sitting member of the firm's India Committee and is active in the development of the firm's India practice.
