There is a wealth of information available both electronically and in print in the world today, but getting to it can be costly, especially if the resources are difficult to access. At Bennett Jones, we have a dedicated group of research lawyers and maintain extensive law libraries in Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto that can be accessed by local, in-house counsel of our clients.

Our research lawyers have diverse backgrounds and experience encompassing corporate and commercial, securities, oil and gas, environmental, and regulatory law, litigation, real estate, and wills and estates. The group is available to help lawyers and clients conduct research into legal issues in these areas, including analyzing specific questions of law, providing general advice to a lawyer and/or a client on an ongoing basis, and preparing legal arguments for litigation matters. They help keep the firm's lawyers current in the law, and prepare and present seminars on legal issues for clients.

To control costs and to ensure the efficiency of our research, we have an experienced team of expert librarians who conduct searches and research on all Canadian and foreign databases found on LexisNexis and Westlaw, as well as other databases. In addition, Bennett Jones' experienced staff of librarians can assist in finding other print and electronic sources, some of which are not always well known.

Bennett Jones also has an extensive precedent collection, which is accessible to every lawyer through the firm's intranet, and represents over 20 years of the highest quality of firm work product.

The members of the research practice excel at crafting answers to our clients' questions and challenges, canvassing a wide range of sources and providing strong analysis in order to provide the highest quality service.
