Our lawyers have played significant roles in most major Canadian and U.S. cross-border restructurings over the past 25 years and have been involved as Canadian counsel in international restructurings across Europe, Central America and Australia, including such past high-profile matters as Stelco, Parmalat Canada, Olympia & York, Laidlaw, AT&T Canada and Teleglobe.
We are widely noted for our pre-eminent Canadian practice representing par bondholders, high-yield investors, hedge funds and distressed debt purchasers (both individually and through formal and informal committees). We are also regularly recognized for our representation of major foreign banks, insurance companies, investment firms and other financial institutions. We have often represented debtors in sophisticated Canadian and cross-border insolvencies and we also maintain an extremely active practice on behalf of more conventional debtors seeking court protection and for creditors and receivers involved with enforcement remedies in the ordinary course.
Working as an integrated unit tailored to each circumstance, our bankruptcy and restructuring lawyers coordinate firm-wide resources in litigation, securities, corporate, tax, mergers and acquisitions, pensions and employment law to apply common sense and creativity throughout the workout process. We have a long track record of facilitating consensual deals, including "pre-packaged" restructurings, but also of being especially creative and proactive as the circumstances require.
